Justia CLE Terms

These CLE Terms provide an overview of how lawyers can attend Justia webinars for Continuing Legal Education ("CLE") credit. By seeking CLE credit through one or more Justia webinar(s), a lawyer agrees to comply with these CLE Terms, the requirements stated on the applicable webinar page, and any other applicable Justia terms and policies.

1. Where Justia Webinars Are Accredited

Certain Justia webinars are accredited for CLE in one or more of the following states:

  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • California
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • Nevada
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • West Virginia

However, not every webinar is accredited for CLE in all of these states. Certain webinars are not accredited for CLE, and other webinars are accredited only in a selection of these states. Lawyers must review the individual webinar page to determine whether that webinar is accredited for CLE in a particular jurisdiction.

Webinars that are accredited for CLE are accredited only for certain delivery formats and dates. Lawyers seeking CLE credit should also review this information on the individual webinar page.

2. Eligibility to Attend for CLE Credit

To receive CLE credit for attending a Justia webinar, a lawyer must verify their law license with Justia. This involves claiming or creating a Justia Lawyer Directory Profile.

To earn CLE credit with Justia, a lawyer needs one of the following Justia Connect memberships:

  • Justia Connect Pro (Paid): Includes access to all webinars and eligibility for CLE credit in approved states at no additional cost.
  • Justia Connect Practice (Free): Includes access to all webinars. Select webinars offer free CLE credit in certain states. (See Section 7 for more details.)

3. Verifying Attendance for CLE

A lawyer who meets the eligibility requirements described above must watch the entire live or on-demand webinar and complete all attendance and verification requirements established for the webinar. Audio-only attendance by phone does not qualify for CLE credit.

For live webinars, this involves seeing/hearing a verification code and submitting the code as well as additional required verification information in the Justia CLE dashboard. For on-demand webinars, this involves responding to periodic attendance verification pop-ups and then submitting the required verification information in the Justia CLE dashboard.

To receive CLE credit for a live webinar, a lawyer must verify their attendance within 48 hours after watching the webinar. To receive CLE credit for an on-demand webinar, they must complete the full course and the CLE verification process within 30 days after beginning the course.

4. Reporting CLE Attendance

Justia complies with any attendance reporting and related requirements in states where we have obtained accreditation for a webinar. Lawyers may need to comply with additional attendance reporting requirements, depending on the state where they are seeking credit. It is their responsibility to understand and comply with these rules.

5. Using the CLE Tracker

Justia provides a CLE tracker for certain states, which allows attorneys to monitor their progress toward meeting their CLE requirements in those states. However, the CLE tracker indicates course completion only; it does not necessarily indicate that an attorney’s attendance has been reported or registered with the applicable state bar.

Attorneys should still keep certificates of their attendance for their records rather than solely relying on the tracker.

6. CLE Credit in Non-Accredited States

Justia does not guarantee that a lawyer will receive CLE credit for attending a webinar in a jurisdiction where we have not obtained accreditation. However, we provide a generic certificate of attendance that a lawyer may use if they choose to pursue CLE credit in a non-accredited state through self-submission or reciprocity. A lawyer interested in this option should consult and follow the CLE rules in the state at issue. Justia will not provide assistance or guidance with this process beyond the generic certificate of attendance.

7. The Justia Free CLE Program

Justia has launched a Free CLE program for accredited webinars in certain states. A webinar designated as Free CLE in a particular state requires a lawyer seeking credit in that state to have only a free Justia Connect Practice Membership, rather than a paid Justia Connect Pro Membership.

Note that a webinar that has been accredited in various states may be designated as Free CLE in some states but not others. Lawyers should carefully review the individual webinar page to make sure that they understand whether the webinar is designated as Free CLE in their desired state, and contact us if they have questions.

Currently, the Free CLE program is active in the following states:

  • California

In addition to the state-specific Free CLE program, Justia provides free CLE credit for one designated live webinar per month for all Justia Connect Practice members in all states where that webinar is accredited. This benefit is only available for Practice members who attend the live broadcast of the designated webinar.

8. Financial Aid Policy

Justia understands that some lawyers may be facing financial exigencies. We offer a financial aid policy that may help them comply with CLE requirements during challenging times. Review the policy here, and feel free to contact us with any questions.

9. Attendance Without Seeking CLE Credit

Anyone with a free Justia Connect membership is welcome to attend any of our webinars live or on-demand for general educational or informational purposes separate from obtaining CLE credit.

10. Changes to CLE Terms

Justia reserves the right to change any aspect of the CLE Terms at our discretion.
